Being a healthcare provider in today's world is an entirely new endeavor requiring courage, innovation, and constant acquisition and improvement of skills. After dedicating one's self to years of study and training many doctors graduate without the necessary skills and knowledge to provide the standard of care for patients the law requires, leaving many practitioners legally exposed. Fortunately, many study clubs feature presenters who fill in some of the gaps and equip doctors with the skills and knowledge they need to offer excellent patient care. 

Yet there is another aspect of the study club equally important, that is not about law suits, technical skills, or money. A professional study club is much more than group of dentists fulfilling their obligatory continuing education requirements or catching up on the latest gadgetry in their specialty. Study club offer the opportunity to learn something new, challenge pre-existing beliefs, as well as accrue knowledge in radically changing fields. But most of all, study clubs are a way to bring back an important, and often neglected part of community life, interacting with others in your field, getting to know each-other and learn from each-other. Some presentations challenge people to let go of outdated ideas that have been hampering their level of patient care, practice growth, and often, their own happiness. Why else would people forgo time with their families, miss out on chair time, or basketball games to sit in a room full of their peers and, oftentimes, their competitors?  There must be something to this.
